Moderate red wine consumption combat pulmonary diseases

copa-vino-tintoAccording to a study of National Heart and Lung Institute of Imperial College London, moderate red wine consumption can combat chronic pulmonary diseases. Although it’s well known red wine gives multiples health benefits -thanks to it high amount of antioxidants, which also helps to keep a healthy heart- this study reveals this drink could fight some diseases like pulmonary emphysema, chronic bronchitis and even asthma, because of a red wine key component known as resveratrol, a phytoestrogen which also could have an anticancer preventive effect. Red wine fights ovarian cancer

vino-tinto-y-cancer-ovaricoOvarian cancer affects a lot of women and it’s estimated that this disease is the sixth more usual tumor and the eighth cause of death around the world.

However, this situation could be prevented by drinking two glasses of red wine a day. Queensland Institute of Medical Research have determined that “women who reported an average consumption of around 25 g/day of alcohol –two standard drinks- had about half the risk of ovarian cancer compared with non-drinkers”. Even those who drink only one glass of wine a week can reduce about 20% this risk. (more…)

How cool white wine

To enjoy the different Frontera wines, it is recommended that red wines are consumed at a temperature about 18° C or 64°F, while the temperature of the whites must be lower, between 8° to 10° C (46° – 50° F), depending on the strain.

Therefore, when buying a white wine many people tend to keep it in the refrigerator to drink it as cold as possible. However, this belief is quite wrong, because if the bottle spends many days in the refrigerator the cork tends to harden, making difficult the task of corkage. It is very likely to break the cork by remove it in these conditions, taking the risk of spilling the wine. (more…)

The art of uncorking a wine

descorcharTo enjoy a good wine you have to start from the simplest: the corkage.

Open a bottle of wine is an act that always requires considerable care and delicacy. Be careful not to break the cork and left residues of it in the wine. So the first thing to do is put the bottle in an upright position and hold it firmly to prevent its movement.
Then, remove the capsule covering the cork with a foil cutter, which usually comes attached in some corkscrew or knife. If there is any kind of residue around the mouth of the bottle, it is important to remove it with a clean cloth. (more…)

The perfect temperature for a Frontera wine

In general, it is recommended that the temperature of wine must never be below 43° F (6° C) or over 68° F (20° C), because you will not be able to feel its aroma, explains Gabriel Salas, sommelier of Concha y Toro.
